Well, the reason is simply to highlight the fact that the Temple Mount in Jerusalem is the geographical focal point of the supernatural-spiritual war between the hosts of God and the hosts of Satan. God has permitted the present desolation and abomination on the Temple Mount, but the day is quickly coming when Jesus Christ shall return to cleanse the site and build a new Temple of God.
